Pai Gow Tutorial

Chapter 7: Betting, Commission, and Expected Return

What's special about this deal?
See the last page of this chapter for the answer.

Pai Gow is usually played as a betting game. You bet an amount of your choice on each deal. You might lose your bet or win the amount of your bet, depending, of course, on the tiles that you are dealt and how you play those tiles.

This brief chapter will discuss three topics:

  • betting issues, such as when you bet and how much you bet

  • the commission, which is a piece of your winnings that the house takes back

  • the expected return, the amount that mathematics predicts you will win or lose in various playing conditions.
